Adding embedded audio and video to your document library

Hosted Document Library Pro can display far more than downloadable files. You can embed audio and video players, and other interactive content such as image galleries, directly inside your library so people can watch and listen without leaving the page. This article explains how to add embedded media to your documents.

Add media to the content of a document

The simplest place to add an embedded player is the main content of a document. On the Add Document screen, the content field accepts embedded media, so anything you place there can show up in the content column of your library.

To embed a video from a service such as YouTube or Vimeo, paste its share link into the content field and it will turn into a working player automatically. The same works for many other popular media services that support embedding.

Upload your own audio or video

If you would rather host the file yourself, you can upload an audio or video file as part of the document, and it will play inline as a media player. Audio files work well this way. For video, we generally recommend using a hosting service such as YouTube or Vimeo instead, because video files are large and these services handle playback smoothly across all devices.

If you do not want to embed a player but still want to point people to a media file, you can add the document as a link. On the Add Document screen, paste the URL of the audio file or the page on a service such as YouTube or SoundCloud, and the library entry will open that link when clicked.

Check it in your library

Once you have saved the document, open your library and confirm the embedded players appear and work as expected.
