My documents aren’t appearing in the library

You’ve added a document, published it, and set its visibility to public, yet it still isn’t showing in your library. This is almost always down to one of a few settings, and you can resolve most cases yourself in a couple of minutes.

Confirm the document is published and public

Start with the document itself. Open it in your dashboard and check that it is set to published rather than draft, and that its visibility is public. A document saved as a draft, or marked private, will not appear in the library for visitors.

Clear your browser cache

A new document often appears to be missing simply because you are looking at a cached copy of the page. Refresh the library, or open it in a private browsing window, so you see the latest version. If you have embedded the library on another website that uses caching, clear that cache as well.

Check the library’s categories

Each library can be scoped to specific categories in the Library Builder. If a library is set to show only certain categories, a document in a different category won’t appear in it.

Open the library and check which categories it includes, then confirm your new document is assigned to one of them. Either add the matching category to the document, or widen the library to include the document’s category.

Check the pages and sort order

If your library spans more than one page, a newly added document may be sitting on a later page rather than the first one. The sort order matters here too. If documents are sorted by date, a document published with an older date will appear in date order rather than at the top.

Click through to the later pages, or change the sort order to bring recent additions to the front.

Check the visibility settings

If you are on the Advanced plan and using access control, a document may be hidden rather than missing. The password gate and visibility rules can keep documents out of view for visitors who don’t have access.

Tip: view the library as a visitor, for example in a private browsing window, to see exactly what your audience sees. This often reveals a visibility setting faster than checking each option one by one.
