Is there a maximum number of passwords for my document library?

A common question when locking a hosted document library is whether there is a cap on how many passwords you can create. This guide covers the limit and what to watch for if you add a lot of them.

Access control is available on the Advanced plan. Hosted libraries are protected with passwords, which you manage from the Access Control section of your dashboard.

Is there a limit?

There is no fixed maximum. You can add as many passwords as you need, and a visitor can unlock the protected content by entering any one of them.

What to watch for

Each time someone submits a password, your library checks it against every password you have saved to find a match. Dozens of passwords are no problem, but if you build up hundreds or thousands, the check can start to feel slower at the point of entry.

If unlocking ever becomes sluggish, trimming the list of passwords down to the ones you actually need will speed things back up.
